It is important to have backup of your data in case of events that can harm either the integrity and/or availability or you data. It can be a disc crashing, lost or forgotten laptop, ransomware etc.
Thinking of backup, you should also consider the restore options. How will you be able to restore your data, and are you actually able to perform a restoration?
- Who is responsible for creating backups of your data?
- How is backup stored in case of e.g. fire?
- Does the backup allow you to recover your data to a state that is acceptable?
- What is the interval of the backup?
- Is your backup disconnected from the system where you handle files, so e.g. ransomware cannot access and encrypt your backup?
- Have you verified the backup in order to make sure that you can perform a restore operation?
